What is the purpose?

The economic purpose is regeneration of the region - to increase the quality and quantity of jobs in rural communities not only through the visitor economy but associated occupations and business opportunities including creative and knowledge-driven industries and educational establishments.

The environmental purpose is to contain the use of the private car, contribute to the improvement in local transport and protect the natural assets and communities whilst providing greater access to the region’s diverse heritage.
